About My Clients
We so often walk through life missing the best things because we are caught up with insecurity - we’re worried about how we look, how we sound, or how we are being seen by others. I believe we can shut up the inner critic and stop co-signing with oppressive systems that keep us distracted from our purpose. Civil rights activist Audre Lorde said, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”
My Background and Approach
The focus of my practice centers on the belief that we each have wisdom built into our bodies. Throughout our lives, the systems we are a part of relentlessly attempt to dismantle our trust in ourselves and leave us feeling powerless. We do not have to consent. Our work will be collaborative, not cookie-cutter. We will create a plan together and work on getting to the "why" behind your concerns. Some people like to start by giving me the full story right off the bat, and some may feel better taking things slowly. No matter your comfort level or past experience with therapy, you can do this. My background and training include extensive experience in eating disorders, trauma recovery, and couples and family therapy. I’m trained in EMDR and certified in Somatic Psychotherapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We are taught from a young age to ignore and shut down our instincts - to minimize our suffering. We are taught to comply, to fit in, and to behave. Over time this can suppress our inner wisdom and hijack our nervous system, making it really hard to tell what belongs to us and what has been sold to us without our agreement or maybe even our knowledge. This can lead to feelings of confusion, anger, anxiety, and depression. Therapy can help us learn to trust our own wisdom again and separate our inner-knowing from the outer bullshit. I believe that therapy does not have to be stuffy or pretentious. It can be a place for you to get to know yourself and what you need with a kind and authentic professional guiding you. If that sounds good to you, reach out and let’s see if we’re a fit!
