About My Clients
You're over it. You're eager for change. Maybe you're nervous about it, but you're ready for the challenge! You don't want to have to perform "client" when you come to therapy. You want to show up as your perfectly imperfect human self. You want to be real with yourself and have someone be real with you. You're down for sitting with it, digesting it, learning about it, and taking action from a place that is authentic to you.
My Background and Approach
I got my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Multicultural Counseling concentration at Antioch University Seattle. My approach is insight-oriented and emotionally focused. The therapy is based in Existential theory, with influences of Gestalt theory, multiculturalism, and mindfulness techniques. I believe that change happens when we become aware of our choices, so the focus of therapy is discovering self-awareness while considering the context of systemic power structures.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe liberation is real and the road we're aiming to walk on in therapy. Mental health and healing comes from liberation, which we gain through reclaiming our power within the oppressive systems that we live in. I do not believe it is enough to manage our symptoms. While it's useful to learn how to manage our anxiety, tips and tricks will not uproot the systems that give us a reason to feel anxious. Authentic expressions are our truths and our paths to liberation and I believe it is necessary to explore the whole picture from symptom management to understanding how the oppressive roots shaped our values and views of ourselves.
