My Background and Approach
I am very "eclectic" in the way I practice. I like to ask a lot of questions at the beginning. I like to know what clients are coming to me for (maybe they don't even know and it's my job to help them figure out what it is they are struggling with). I like to know what their goals are. Then, I ask questions and use assessment tools to form a picture. I look at things from many lenses, particularly attachment and trauma lenses as ways to heal mind, body, spirit, and soul. I like to help people get back in touch with who they are and re-discover joy in their lives. I might weave in some psychoeducation, techniques from IFS, Hakomi, and more while you are sharing and processing your inner thoughts and feelings in what is called classic "talk therapy.” Or we may begin with EMDR therapy (Trained through Thrive Training EMDRIA Accredited).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Our world is so fast-paced and we miss so much. When we slow down and connect with ourselves and the rhythms of nature, that's when we heal. We even see this backed by the science of polyvagal theory and the neurobiology of trauma through Daniel Siegel's work and more. EMDR helps to provide a safe and effective container for people to talk and process trauma from one's past. When a traumatic or intense event occurs, it can get locked in the brain with the original images, sounds, thoughts, feelings, and body sensations. EMDR stimulates the information and allows the brain to reprocess the experience. EMDR also targets core beliefs about oneself. How we feel about ourselves impacts how we show up in the world and impacts all of our relationships. When we heal core beliefs about ourselves, we show up differently in the world (with more ease and peace) and this has a domino effect on our relationships.
