About My Clients
I serve many different types of clients. I have over 30 years' experience working with children, adolescents, and families. I also have experience working with adult clients and couples. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional who can work with different types of traumas. I am a "queer friendly" therapist who welcomes members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I look forward to talking with you soon!
My Background and Approach
We will work together to create a safe space for you to talk about your emotions, thoughts, fears, and goals. I believe that many problems can be solved through changing faulty thought processes. While my primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, I also employ different theories that are suited to each individual client's needs. I incorporate psychoeducational activities and artistic activities in my practice, particularly with children. I help clients work through their traumas, emotions, and fears so that they can live life as the most authentic version of themselves. We will work together to develop realistic goals that reflect your desired treatment outcomes. We will explore mindfulness practices, self-care regimens, ways to improve communication and self-confidence, and effective coping strategies. I use stories, games, and art activities to connect with children to help them achieve their therapeutic goals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe every person has value. We all can grow stronger by working through the challenges in our lives. I believe everyone can find their path as they journey forward. I am here to listen and provide support as you work toward your goals. I am not the expert; I am a partner who will support you as you achieve the goals you want to achieve. I believe I learn more from my clients than they learn from me. I am ready and excited to work with you. I know about loss. I lost my father to cancer at the age of 12. By the time I was 16, I was caring for my mother who was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. I am married to a former combat veteran, so I understand the challenges of living with someone who has PTSD. My beautiful daughter is also transgender and is making her transition. I believe all of these parts of my life have shaped who I am. Not that it has been easy, but I believe we can meet the challenges from our past and live healthy lives today.
