I work with youth, adults and couples looking for a provider who treats LGBTQIA+ people with affirming and culturally-competent approaches.

Psychologist in Baltimore, MD

About My Clients

My clients range from those who have never had therapy before to those who are revisiting prior issues or exploring new goals. Regardless of the situation, I know that finding a good therapeutic match is important and hope the information on my listing can assist you in finding what you need. I work predominately with LGBTQIA+ people (though sexuality and gender are not always a primary issue) and on common mental health concerns (e.g. anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, coping, changes).

My Background and Approach

When working with clients I start with a humanistic approach supported by research findings. We explore not only emotional health but also personal goals, social and family life, physical health academic/career progress, as well as other aspects of identity/culture (e.g. religious background, race, ethnicity, sexuality, ability, etc.). I also use the Gottman Method in my work with couples and find it complements my overall theoretical orientation in that it is both relational and research-based. My training is in counseling psychology and I have worked in a range of settings including colleges, hospitals and integrated health clinics. I enjoy providing supervision and training as well as staying involved with professional organizations. I am a WPATH member, have authored several articles and book chapters on intersexuality, serve on SAMHSA's National Workgroup to Address the Needs of Children and Youth Who Are LGBTQI2-S and am a medical advisor to the AIS-DSD support group.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that no therapist can be completely unbiased or is a neutral party (both in treatment and in their personal life). As such, I continually examine myself and my actions and value the feedback of others. Relational work is essential to making the world a more equitable, sustainable and meaningful place. We have a long way to go but I appreciate all of those who have spent their time shaping me into who I am as a psychologist and as an overall human.
