About My Clients
Dr. Melissa Kae works with adult clients struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions or wanting to work on personal growth or relationship issues. Dr. Kae specializes in LGBTQ+ populations and adult children of narcissistic or emotionally immature parents.
My Background and Approach
I tailor my approach to the individual based on personality factors and based on the source of what is causing distress and discomfort. I work in a collaborative fashion to find what works best for the patient and use a strength based approach to assist with making changes. I work with methods aimed at identifying distressing thoughts, improving mood and interpersonal relationships as well as working towards living a value directed life and improving abilities and skills to manage stressors and intense emotions. I have experience working in a variety of clinical and psychiatric settings providing services to adults, older adults, veterans, LGBTQIA+ community and adolescents. I have worked in inpatient, outpatient and residential settings. I have also worked with individuals from a variety of diverse backgrounds and with marginalized populations including individuals who have been incarcerated, people experiencing homelessness and patients in skilled nursing facilities.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I strongly value cultural awareness and competency in my practice. I have made it a priority to focus on this area of learning throughout my career. As part of the LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities, I have a deeper understanding of some of the difficulties experienced in these communities.
