Omela Golden (she/her)

I trained in clinical mental health counseling and expressive arts therapy. I went on to lead expressive arts therapy groups at an intensive outpatient program for several years. I now use this experience to help individuals explore creative outlets for managing stress and problem solving. I especially love helping recovering perfectionists make use of artistic talents again, whether that is journaling without caring about punctuation, or making 'ugly' art on purpose!

My work in the field began with crisis counseling for a sexual assault hotline. From there I took a year long seminar with Judith Butler (author: Trauma and Recovery) at the Victims of Violence program. Since then trauma focused counseling has been at the heart of what I provide, growing to encompass attachment patterns, somatic (body-based) counseling, and trauma-informed mindfulness practices. I am passionate about helping people achieve post-traumatic growth!

So many things impact our mental health, from the relationships we have or don't have, the foods we eat, how often we move our body, our opportunities for sleep and rest, whether we have outlets for creativity and play, our sense of wonder or meaning, and the systemic oppression and injustices we face each day. In my style of therapy, all of these topics are valid and relevant to your wellness. I approach counseling from the knowledge that our thoughts, emotions, body are all connected.
