About My Clients
I'm most effective with folx 13 - 64, more specifically transitional-age youth (15 - 25). i work with folx with an array of identities and prioritize working with bipoc and lgbtqia+ folx. I typically see clients who've been impacted by trauma, abuse/neglect, those experiencing altered states (aka psychosis), anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive, disordered eating, body image and self-esteem issues, caregiver-child conflict, attachment issues, systemic oppression, suicidality and more.
My Background and Approach
i have a diverse set of skills pulling from many types of therapy. this will allow you and i to identify the unique combination of skills that is going to feel the most effective and supportive in reaching the goals you’ve identified for yourself. some therapies i pull from include (but are not limited to) dialectical behavioral therapy (dbt), somatic therapy, trauma-informed therapy, attachment-based therapy, narrative therapy, existential therapy, mindfulness, collaborative problem-solving, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt), and cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis (cbtp). i am also certified in brainspotting and will soon be certified in neurofeedback.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
i identify as a queer, first-generation african womxn existing in a bigger body. the intersection of my identities significantly influenced how i was (and continue to be) viewed by society and created very clear barriers to accessing community resources. my practice values are rooted in collaboration, empathy, transparency, affirmation, introspection and liberation. I believe that people are doing the best they can with the skills they have. Some of us were left grossly unequipped to navigate social norms and meet unrealistic expectations to no fault of their own, but rather employed by individuals far from relatable. I am especially dedicated to communities that have been “othered” and thus left to fend for themselves in this brutal society. in my practice, I prioritize those who have been excluded and disregarded due to their to race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, language, and/or immigration status.
