Addictions Counselor in Michigan

About My Clients

I often work with people who are depressed, anxious, struggle with things that have happened in the past, cannot focus or stay organized, and struggle with maintaining relationships. Often my clients are LGBTQ+, suspect that they have ADHD and/or ASD, and feel that their life experiences from before have really affected how they live life now. If any of this sounds like things you may deal with, I have experience helping clients work on addressing symptoms from most mental health diagnoses.

My Background and Approach

I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2017 with my Master of Social work degree. I went on to work in HIV counseling, to practicing and then handling many operations for a large LGBTQ+ private practice, to practicing in a partial hospitalization program, to being the clinic director of a large non-profit outpatient psychiatry center, to practicing as a school social worker during the day and clinical director and therapist of my own practice in my free time. I have experience in many environments providing care to the public and have helped people from all walks of life and belief systems. In working with so many different people I have found that it is most important to focus first on therapy relationship prior to introducing different interventions from specific therapy modalities. I have training and ample experience in CBT, DBT, EMDR, psychodynamics, and ego state therapy. Each of these modalities have different strengths and I hand tailor them to meet client's needs.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am very passionate about the field of social work and do my best to live by our code of ethics. One of the most crucial parts of that includes social justice. As a gay and non-binary person, I do not value social justice just because it is an ethical principle, but because it directly affects the lives of me, my friends, and community. I care greatly about other oppressed communities and am versed in the real issues that affect the day to day lives. I am quite versed in working with BIPOC (Black, indigenous, and people of color), religious minorities, disabled folks, and many others. I feel that every person deserves respect, autonomy, validation, emotional and physical safety, and to have their needs met. This is a cornerstone of how I interact with clients and the world on a day to day basis. I am a doctoral student and love learning, have two amazing & demonic dogs, love the fiber arts, live for tea (both types), enjoy traveling and culture, and frequent the gym.
