About My Clients
I work with a vast array of people, with special emphasis on gay men, gender minorities, and the LGBTQIA+ community at large. I help people with anxiety, depression, trauma, and long-standing and difficult issues find wholeness and vitality. I also serve many highly intelligent and professionally successful people, including many in academia and also in executive roles with major companies.
My Background and Approach
Beginning therapy can be scary and is a bold step toward making proactive changes in your life. I provide a warm and relaxed atmosphere to explore your emotional life in a safe and supportive space. Aware of the importance of the body, I experience you as a whole person: your words, life themes, affect, posture, and your presence. By experiencing you in your wholeness, I can contextualize what can feel confusing or fragmentary. I can share what I see and understand, helping you raise your self-awareness. This process can harmonize your thoughts and emotions. Insight alone often is not sufficient for healing. By slowing down and looking with mindfulness at your emotional experience in the present moment and the here-and-now of the therapeutic relationship, we can explore the qualities and aesthetics of your patterns of relating to others. Throughout all of this, you will have the chance to find greater unity and cohesion in your experience of your self.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Todd Anderson is a warm, intelligent and dedicated provider of psychotheraputic services in New York City. He works in a holistic manner rather than merely emphasizing symptom reduction, as he finds that a comprehensive approach allows long-lasting transformation. Special areas of expertise include work with gay men, couples therapy with gay men, work with BDSM/Kink & others who express their sexuality in diverse ways, & out-of-control sexual behavior, as well as work with those who face religious confusion or trauma & those with complex medical issues impacting their mental health. All of these diverse areas are unified in the shame, rejection, & minority stress that many of these populations experience. Additionally, he has experience working with trauma, dissociation, & addictions.
