Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy, first developed in the 1980s by Marsha M. Linehan, to treat patients suffering from borderline personality disorder. Since then, DBT’s use has broadened and now it is regularly employed as part of a treatment plan for people struggling with behaviors or emotions they can't control. This can include eating disorders, substance abuse, self-harm, and more. DBT is a skills-based approach that focuses on helping people increase their emotional and cognitive control by learning the triggers that lead to unwanted behaviors. Once triggers are identified, DBT teaches coping skills that include mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. A therapist specializing in DBT will help you to enhance your own capabilities, improve your motivation, provide support in-the-moment, and better manage your own life with problem-solving strategies. Think this approach might work for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s DBT specialists today.

For the last two years I have been working with clients in a hospital setting with eating disorders. Within this time I have gotten the opportunity to help those facing many challenges, not limited to eating disorders alone. I would love to help you with things like connecting to your body, giving yourself grace and compassion, and accepting your authentic self.
Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

I firmly believe that every one of us is born with inherent worth, strengths, and gifts. Sometimes what happens to us on life’s journey interferes with our ability to see those. Sometimes our self-worth seems elusive or lacking altogether. I have a passion for helping clients reclaim that self-worth and capitalize on those valuable strengths and gifts. Whether you have been struggling with addictions, compulsive behaviors, codependency, anxiety, depression, or more, I would be honored to help.

My clients usually come to me because they struggling with eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, or a chronic illness, but moreover they come in because they are deep feelers--always feeling either not enough, or too much-- who want to make a difference, and don't know how to move forward in the next chapter of their life. If that's you, I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together.
When clients begin therapy, many of them are searching for a space to fully express themselves and to process their struggles. My hope is that you find that here and begin to identify ways to move forward. I work with individuals ages 10 years old and up, and especially enjoy working with those who have experienced trauma and empowering them in the healing process. I believe in the healing power of being fully heard and fully accepted.
