About My Clients
I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA2S+ community. I work with clients who are interested in: - Identity exploration - Thorough diagnostic evaluation (for most major mental health conditions) - Understanding and moving forward from challenging family of origin dynamics - Building healthier close personal relationships - Deconstructing a high-control religious upbringing - Letting go of self-limiting beliefs and behaviors
My Background and Approach
I practice psychodynamic therapy. I believe clients come to therapy because something in their life or behavior is out of alignment with their values, and it's making them feel stuck. They may or may not have pinpointed what that misalignment is -- but bottom line, something hurts. It's my job to work with you to understand where the hurt is, how it came about, and how to connect with your own strength and resiliency to heal from it. I believe in the dialectic of acceptance and change -- we all have a core need to be heard and understood, but if we don't change our behavior or worldview we stay stuck. Together we'll work on challenging that stuck-ness with compassion, curiosity, and humor. I am also trained as a physician and psychiatrist, and can provide medication management and/or deprescribing (reducing/tapering off of medications).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community and believe in queer and trans affirming therapy. I provide letters for trans clients to receive gender affirming care. I am committed to an anti-oppression, liberation-based framework as a therapist.
