About My Clients
I believe the client is the expert in their own life. Treatment plans are collaborative and based on an individual's desires and needs. I strive to consistently help clients process, heal and understand how the trauma they have experienced in their life may inform their current challenges. I employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) strategies and techniques to help clients gain greater insight and awareness into their automatic thinking patterns and explore potential areas for growth.
My Background and Approach
I am proud of my experience as a social worker and therapist but the most influential factor in my clinical development has been my experience as a human. I achieved my MSW at Boston University in 2008 and worked as a clinical social worker in residential facilities, family counseling, school and military settings. I started a private practice in Hawaii in 2016, mostly specializing in child and family issues. I became a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional in 2021. While therapy can be emotionally demanding at times, I hope clients can leave sessions with greater self-understanding, including the identification of strengths. I aim to explore negative self-beliefs that have been carried throughout life; helping to understand origins, working to build a more positive self-image and cultivating greater self-worth. I also strive to help my clients develop stronger skillsets around relationships, communication, emotional identification and self-regulation.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
While I am proud to call myself a therapist, I feel that I am a social worker first. My social work training at BU proudly emphasized their urban mission. Those of us who have chosen this path have made a commitment to understanding the systemic injustices and inadequacies that so many individuals face today. On a macro level, we are dedicated to working tirelessly to create a more just society for all humans and to standing up for what we believe is right. On a micro level, I am personally committed to working hard to provide emotional comfort, relief, validation and empowerment to those who are suffering. At the least you will be seen, heard, understood, respected and admired during your time with me.
