About My Clients
I’m a queer & gay Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) & Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) in DC, specializing in LGBTQ+ affirming therapy. I help clients navigate identity, stress, trauma & life transitions using somatic & experiential approaches for deep healing. My practice is intersectional & multicultural, centering queer experiences across race, gender & neurodivergence. I offer a free 15-minute consult—let’s explore this together.
My Background and Approach
I use a variety of approaches to help clients heal from trauma and treat associated stress, anxiety, and depression. I use social justice-informed approaches, build on clients' strengths, and cultivate a space for existential inquiry into the nature of suffering and growth. I typically work in phases: building the therapeutic relationship, coping skills and stabilization, processing and re-stabilizing. I embrace the philosophical and existential paths toward healing with stress reduction techniques, polyvagal neuroscience, and mindfulness training. I use deep-breathing and grounding techniques to help people begin to find rest and connection with their body. If interested, I can also add in Buddhist informed counseling, ecotherapy, culinary art therapy, and self-directed art therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe you are more than a diagnosis. While some find a diagnosis helpful, I'm most interested in you as a person, your relationship with yourself, and how you experience the world and relationships. The theories I use go deeper than diagnosis to explore the root of your experience and patterns. Also, a diagnostic-only or centric approach risks positioning locus of control on the person experiencing suffering. Suffering does not happen in a vacuum, it is the result of relationships and societal dynamics. My thinking is informed by themes from colonialism and capitalism and their impact on identity development and intergenerational trauma.
