My Background and Approach
My work is grounded in multiple therapeutic models; I would call my style eclectic and adaptable to my client's needs. I use Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help me focus on my clients goals and strengths, MRI/Brief Strategic Therapy to help me understand the nature of problems and patterns, and Bowen Family Systems to go deeper into my client's unique family histories. I work off of my clients metaphors to help them weave new stories about themselves, and always aim to understand my clients in the most holistic way possible.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I follow my clients lead and respect their boundaries when discussing cultural issues. I understand that I can never walk a mile in my client's shoes, but instead humbly walk beside them as an advocate, a learner, and a cheerleader. I welcome difficult conversations about inter-sectional identities (this is what therapy is all about!) and recognize that past and present, personal and inter-generational, often painful, but also joyful memories and reactions are informed by these experiences. I welcome diversity including all body sizes, abilities, races, ethnicities, socio-economic classes, sexual orientations, gender identities, religions, and documentation statuses. I am a life long learner whose undergraduate work focused on post-colonial history; I strive to always be on the lookout for new analysis on how the political informs the personal. I enjoy working with my clients in their process of reclaiming their stories and separating out legacies of strength and survival from shame.
