About My Clients
I have extensive experience working with people who experience suicidal ideation to increase safety and move beyond surviving and toward thriving. In addition to helping clients with LGTBQ+ related issues, my practice helps people of all identities navigate depression, relationship issues, family conflicts, & trauma and abuse. When working with couples, I draw heavily from John Gottman & Susan Johnson's (Emotion Focused Therapy) work.
My Background and Approach
I believe having a treatment plan is essential to helping you achieve your goals through therapy. I open sessions by asking for an update specifically about the areas of your life you want to address in therapy. In sessions, I take notes that often include direct quotes from my clients so I can come back to their specific wording to help explore deeper or not bypass significant issues by letting the conversation flow away. I like to plan ahead for my sessions to be prepared to connect details from past sessions with the new information to keep us moving towards your goals. I like to assign meaningful homework.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Every person is the expert on their own experience and directs their path. I help them explore their identity and what choices they want to make to live in alignment with their values. I love working with couples to repair and strengthen relationships. Seeing two people who care for each other deeply commit to the hard work of having a thriving relationship brings me so much joy. I rushed into marriage at a young age, realized with time that it was time for us to let our failed relationship go, and (through my own therapy) have emerged on the other side with a wonderful life. I've navigated my own trauma and learned to manage symptoms of anxiety and depression through effective treatments like EMDR and CBT, which is why I prefer to use these techniques with others. Through my own therapy, I learned how to handle my anxiety and move past it so that it didn't have control over me. I haven't had a panic attack in years and I want you to feel the same freedom that I experience every day.
