About My Clients
My clients include a diversity of identities, particularly those within the intersection of queer Gender, Sexual, Relational Diversity (GSRD) and BIPOC folks. Anxiety and related issues are the most common clinical focus. Those in life transitions, consciousness journeys and artistic endeavors are a part of my expertise. Many of my clients work in tech, are creatives, &/or are part of alternative social communities eg Burning Man, nerd culture. Neurodiversity is often a shared reality.
My Background and Approach
I have been practicing since 2011, fully licensed since 2015 with a doctorate in clinical psychology. My dissertation explored technology addiction. In 2009, I helped found Bay Area Open Minds, a network of GSRD-affirming therapists. I have served as a subject matter expert for the 2022 revision of the state licensing exam. In addition, I have been a speaker on diversity within GSRD communities. In 2022, I published an Acceptance & Commitment Therapy self-help book. Becoming a psychologist was a late-thirties career shift for me, after working in tech, journalism, and entertainment. My integrative approach includes mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy (ACT & DBT), trancework (Ericksonian & NLP), somatic experiencing, and parts work (IFS & ACA). As a feminist psychotherapist, my goal is empowerment of the client. Fostering greater self-trust, compassion and clarity for wise action. Grounded in the transpersonal, with reverence for the shamanic hero's journey.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have been a 20-year long Vipassana meditator, have over 10 years of exploration within Western & Indigenous trancework modalities, as well as 30 years experience with entheogenic medicine. Being a lifelong seeker informs my identity. That said, I work with each client individually to understand and assess their own beliefs--spiritual and otherwise--so that we can utilize a client's existing resources and also find areas to expand the comfort zone. Contribution, learning and celebration are my own highest principles. I believe in free will, self-determination, the ability to change and grow. I believe in the power of our beliefs to effect transformation and manifest. I am sensitive to socioeconomic issues including disparities and privileges which need to be a part of these conversations. I personally have experienced harm as a client from unskillful therapy. I believe in holding this work as a sacred responsibility. I believe it is extremely courageous to engage in therapy.
