About My Clients
My clients tend to approach therapy in search of healing anxiety or depression. They often struggle to find meaning and purpose in their lives. They may describe their experience as a quarter or mid-life crisis. They value a collaborative therapeutic relationship and want to explore their thinking and approach to living. They are open to considering different perspectives as they find their path to meaning and greater emotional health and well-being.
My Background and Approach
As a therapist specializing in philosophically informed counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), I help my clients explore their inner and outer worlds through a contemplative lens by using philosophical and cognitive concepts and engaging in exploratory dialog. My approach is rooted in the here-and-now, focusing on what my clients are experiencing in the present and how that impacts their perspective on the future, the world around them, and their place in it. I work with my clients collaboratively to understand the existential underpinnings of their anxiety and deeply seated thinking patterns that contribute to emotional distress to help them navigate toward a more authentic and fulfilling life. My background in therapy and counseling extends over ten years, working in private practice and community health. Before I was a therapist, I worked in the arts. I am licensed to provide therapy to folks in NY and CA.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that emotional distress often stems from existential concerns and the search for meaning in our lives. By exploring the existential underpinnings of our emotional distress, we can navigate anxiety in a way that enhances our well-being and promotes personal growth. I recognize that well-being is defined by much more than symptom amelioration. While symptom relief is often a consequence of working with me, my ultimate aim is to help my clients find satisfaction and fulfillment in their lives. As a therapist, I feel that it is vital for me to continually learn about different perspectives and practices in the fields of mental health and clinical counseling, as well as global issues that affect us all. With every client I have the privilege of working with, I learn more about myself and the world around me.
