About My Clients
Ready to move forward and feel less stuck? Not sure where to begin? You don't have to go it alone! I specialize in treating anxiety, OCD, and life transitions. My clients are from diverse backgrounds/walks of life, and typically have in common that they wish to live their lives more fully, understand (and accept) themselves more deeply, and connect with others more meaningfully. My clients value a compassionate and down-to-earth therapist, who can offer evidence-based treatments.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, a National Certified Counselor, and a Certified Group Psychotherapist who has more than 20 years experience working with young adults through mid-life. My approach takes into account that much of our suffering comes from trying to control how we think and feel, leading to unworkable behaviors that get in our way. Through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) my clients find ways to drop the struggle, embrace their imperfect humanness, and begin moving towards that which gives their lives meaning and purpose. I also utilize Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered, and Interpersonal. My approach is warm, curious, and collaborative. I also believe that humor can be healing. I work from a trauma-informed lens and seek social-justice through personal and systemic change. I encourage honest and open discussion in both group and individual work.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Sometimes I get the question, "How can you do this job? Isn't it hard to listen to other people's pain?" The truth is, I feel honored each time a client shares their story with me. My faith in the human spirit is renewed as I witness the capacity for humans to heal and grow. Though pain is a part of life, I believe we can reduce suffering in ourselves and others through living our life more intentionally and acting with compassion toward ourselves, others, and the planet.
