About My Clients
I am passionate about supporting people in living a life that is aligned with their true values, and healing from both external and internalized oppression that may be impacting their well-being. I specialize in working with clients who are struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image, as well as neurodivergent folks, LGBTQ+ folks, and those impacted by grief, loss, and trauma, including religious trauma.
My Background and Approach
My therapeutic approach is primarily based in person-centered and feminist approaches. This means I strive to create a space in which clients can express their full, authentic selves and share their stories without shame or judgment. I also have training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. Additionally, I regularly incorporate self-compassion, expressive arts, philosophy and pop culture, and self-advocacy skills into my approach. My approach is aligned with Health At Every Size and fat liberation. It is also informed by the neurodiversity paradigm, which means I reject the idea that there is any right way to have a brain and instead embrace cognitive, psychological, and neurological differences and disabilities as part of human diversity.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that our mental health and well-being are profoundly shaped by our environment, and in particular by systemic oppression and cultural biases. As a queer, neurodivergent therapist in recovery from diet culture and disordered eating, I have experienced firsthand some of the deeply harmful effects of living in a patriarchal, heteronormative, ableist, and fatphobic culture. Too often, we are told that our bodies and our identities are a problem that needs to be fixed or changed, and we go through life believing that we are not worthy just as we are. I am passionate about supporting people in accepting who they are and unlearning harmful messages that have been imposed by our culture.
