About My Clients

I enjoy working with teens and young adults working through challenges related to stress, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and life transitions. In addition, I have experience working with youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, OCD, as well as those coping with attachment issues related to adoption. I have worked with adults coping with anxiety and mood disorders, traumatic brain injury, and psychotic disorders.

My Background and Approach

I am specifically trained in Contemplative and Transpersonal Art Therapy. After receiving my BS in Psychology at University of Washington, I found a vital part of mental health is left out of the common training: creativity, spirit, and the collective wisdom that has been alive through the ages. This is what led me to pursue my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with specialization in Transpersonal Art Therapy. At the same time, I draw on my strong clinical skills and training in evidence based treatments. I take an integrative view knowing that everyone's goals and needs are different as well as their context in our culture. My approach is compassionate, warm, playful and direct. With training in both mainstream and alternative practices, my intention is to offer you a balanced therapeutic relationship, in which you are seen as a whole person. In this way I invite you to consider all aspects of yourself: body, emotions, mind, and spirit.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I see mental health disorders on a spectrum of normal behavior; we develop imbalance or unhelpful methods of coping when faced with challenging circumstances. Within a supportive and therapeutic environment that is unique to you, your natural resilience will guide you back into balance. Art making helps with this in several unique ways. It honors the integrity of who you are and allows both of us to really “see” your current distress, confusion, joy or pain. Making art also offers you a therapeutic relationship with something dependable, trustworthy, and available. Finally, imagery that emerges spontaneously often reveals new sources of strength or new possibilities for positive change. Instead of a fearful place, the unconscious becomes a source of useful information, creativity, and guidance.
