About My Clients
I am passionate about working with marginalized communities, especially LGBTQIA+, immigrant population, and BIPOC. I work with clients on complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, adult/late-diagnosed ADHD, relationship concerns, grief, life transitions, stress, parenting skills, career, identity formation, disordered eating, pregnancy/post-partum, and low self-concept/worthlessness. I work with ages 18+ due to remote/telehealth therapeutic setting.
My Background and Approach
As a child, when adults asked me "what do you want to be when you grow up?" I answered "I don't know, but I want to help people." My desire to help others was informed by my own early traumatic experiences of being bombed in my country of birth, immigrating to the United States, and experiencing severe social anxiety, bullying, and social isolation. In my early adulthood, I decided that I wanted to help people through the medium of counseling. I obtained my MS in Counseling in 2020, and have been practicing since 2021. I take an intentional and thoughtful eclectic approach, focusing on meeting my client where they are at and using therapeutic approaches as tools to help my clients move towards their goals. My primary modalities are: IFS, ACT, Narrative, Person-Centered, Trauma-Informed CBT, Experiential, and Somatic therapy. I have training in trauma processing, disordered eating, body positivity/body image, attachment, and inner child work.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a practitioner of ACT, I love having discussions about values, how to be aligned with our values, and the distress of being out of alignment with those values due to personal and systemic barriers. The values most central to me as a person and a counselor are: compassion, honesty, authenticity, and openness. I strive to demonstrate compassion in the therapeutic space through deep listening, unconditional positive regard, and entering into my client's story and how they experience their world. I believe in being dynamic and collaborative in the therapeutic space, and that a client is the expert on themselves. I believe that I am walking alongside my clients, not dragging them along or pushing them forward. I believe in the inherent worthiness and value of all human beings. I am a bookworm, especially burrowing into fantasy novels. I have two dogs (and a spouse) that I spend most of my time with. I love bubble tea, Vietnamese food, food of all kinds in general, and binging TV shows.
