About My Clients
I work best with people who experience issues related to trauma, ADHD/autism, mood disorders, LGBTQIA issues or other issues that are interfering with wellbeing. In our first session, we will talk about the changes you'd like to make and create a strength-based plan to tackle them. This could include supportive talk therapy, goal-focused discussions, and/or psychotherapy.
My Background and Approach
I am a practical, laid back, open-minded therapist and I am always honest with my clients, even if the truth is difficult to hear. Sometimes the hard things are what we need to hear the most, in order to grow. During out first chat, we will spend some time getting to know each other. We will discuss your specific challenges and any symptoms you may be experiencing. We will discuss your your goals for therapy, your strengths and areas of growth, and what you would like to start working on first. I know it can take time to trust a new therapist, so we will do things at your pace. All I will ask up front, is if you have a specific communication and learning style that works best for you, please let me know. I want to provide the best possible experience to you and can tailor your session to meet your needs. For example; if you are a visual learner and like images or videos to learn, I can utilize this in our sessions to help you process things in a way that works for you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
One of the things I like my clients to know about me is that many of the issues they are struggling with are things that I have gone through myself. I am open about my mental health if I feel that it's going to help a client make progress in theirs. Therapists are human and can struggle with mental health issues, executive dysfunction, and other issues related to the unprecedented times we are living in. I like to think I have a unique outlook on day to day life and I like to help people work through their deeper issues, while also learning how to enjoy life again. Mental health is a journey. It's important to remember not to get hung up on the destination and that it's still possible to lead a happy, exciting, fulfilling life, even if you are working through some difficult things. I'm pretty laid back, but passionate about helping people live life again. If you value things like art, music, dogs, and using humor to deal with life, send me a message. I'd love to chat.
