About My Clients
I love working with people of all ages, but I have always specialized in children, adolescents, families, and women's issues. I am particularly rooted in Systems Theory/Therapy. I am also well trained and well versed in trauma impact, particularly to the health of the nervous system. EMDR, Yoga, and Meditation are my favored modalities in working with residual effects of trauma in clients. I am particularly interested in learning more about nature immersion and the impact on MH at this time.
My Background and Approach
I have a Bachelors of Social Work from Murray State University and a Masters of Social Work from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. I began working as a clinical assistant at age 18, and have spent the majority of my career in mental health or related fields for almost 20 years. I have always specialized in children, adolescents, and families, but I am also well versed in women's issues, particularly residual impacts of trauma. I am also a trauma-informed yoga therapist, that likes to utilize Somatic and EMDR techniques to address trauma stored in the physical body. I also enjoy teaching mindfulness and yoga to children and adolescents for resiliency based mental health techniques that they can carry with them throughout their entire life. My biggest goal is to give targeted and specific tools to add to your toolbox that works great for you! I love utilizing play based art and sand tray therapy to explore and learn about emotions. I am also trained in behavior therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that love is the most healing emotion/energy available to us. We are all connected and interdependent, which is a core value of community based living. I am also well versed in energy based healing and bring this to my therapy practice, by holding unconditional loving space for all of my clients. As far as my personal spiritual beliefs, I am Unitarian, meaning that I believe that there is common truths in all religions. I believe every human being has immense value to the world. I am a firm believer in the value of inclusivity and authenticity. We can only find our true purpose when we can fully embody our truest selves. I am supportive of all populations, particularly those that are often marginalized like LGBTQ+ and BIPOC populations. I am also a homeschooling mom of three boys. We prefer nature based education like forest schooling or wild schooling, and I teach homeschool cooperative classes in the Nashville community. I have been married for over a decade.
