About My Clients
I offer a non-judgmental space for you to bring forth any “unconventional” lifestyle issues without fear of pathology when working through relationship difficulties. Treatment is collaborative and integrative for symptoms arising from generational or early life trauma, relationship difficulties, or neurotransmitter dysfunction that may co-exist or precipitate symptom clusters common in PTSD, Bipolar disorder, psychosis, anxiety, depression, or personality disorders.
My Background and Approach
Treatment plans are comprehensive and based on patient needs and preferences. Plans may include behavioral therapy, mindfulness based therapy, interpersonal therapy, nutritional psychiatry, allopathic (traditional) medicine/med management, motivational interviewing therapy, collaboration with medical providers, integrative/complementary medicine referrals, IEP advocacy, parenting skills training, and relationship counseling are offered as needed. Treatment approach is collaborative.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Otter Integrative Psychiatry believes in universal compassion and distributive justice. This is backed by donations of time and money to local organizations that provide mental health or social services in the community including League for People with Disabilities and Smalltimore homes (shelter build outs for the homeless). Special interests include autism advocacy, destigmatization of personality disorders, silent retreat leadership, nature therapy, adolescent/young adult mental health and role transition to adulthood, middle age transition, aging well, re-parenting one’s inner child as an extension of parenting one’s children, developmental psych, and queer-inclusivity among older adults. Truth is born from self-experiential learning. I will never have the capacity to learn a client’s total truth but I can listen openly and suspend my own truth to learn another. I apply my knowledge for the good of others only in the context of the other’s perception of good.
