I work with clients addressing issues related to their mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being. I help my clients create meaningful changes, stronger relationships, and a greater sense of self by focusing on their strengths and using a blend of different therapeutic styles that best match the client’s individual personality.
My Background and Approach
I’m a Registered Associate Marriage & Family Therapist at Grateful Heart where a core focus of my work is supporting adults and couples, many of whom are members of the LGBTQ+ community. Across all ages and backgrounds, I seek to help my clients experience relief from shame, anxiety, depression, inner criticism, and relationship struggles through self-understanding and self-compassion. In my work with couples, I integrate the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy with experiential techniques to gain a deeper understanding of what is beneath the relationship challenges. I work collaboratively with couples to interrupt and prevent conflict patterns and to strengthen the existing bond.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
No one should have to go through life believing that they are unloved, worthless, or not good enough. I grew up in the Deep South. As a closeted gay man at the age of 21, I decided to pursue my dream of being free from the strict religious upbringing and mental oppression that was hindering me from living my truth. I felt desperate to liberate myself from the people and beliefs that were holding me back from the full and authentic life I desired. I was 30 years old before I discovered the power that therapy could have on my life and began reflecting on my past to better inform my future. I’ve made my home in the Bay Area since 2013. My lived experience as a queer man growing up in a straight man’s world, and my struggle to overcome my own complex and religious trauma, has given me insight that I have been called on to share with others. I’m answering the call to be who I needed when I was younger.
